The Type I Shirt

The "Type I" Shirt

Our first release, innovatively named the "Type I" shirt, is designed on a 1930s day shirt pattern. We have tried to produce a shirt that is as close as possible in fit and feel to a 1930s British shirt. Find it in our store here: https://www.kurtzclothiers.com/shop/type-i-shirt

The Type I is a classic tunic shirt, with half-placket  button front, and single button barrel cuffs. Its elegant curved hems are a beautiful feature. Even though they'll never be seen, you know they're there. The first release in the Type I line is made from true vintage 1950s/60s cotton in a brown and cream micro-stripe.

The Type I collar is a 3.5" spearpoint (graded to 3.75" for larger sizes) with rounded tips, and exaggerated curve to the undercollar. This collar will sit with tips on your shirt, and follow the curve over your collarbones - No unsightly standing out at weird angles. It will wear equally well with or without a collar bar. The collar, placket and cuffs of our shirts feature our "Feather-lite" construction, with very thin minimal unfused interfacing for that perfect fly-away soft collar that is such a feature of vintage shirts.

Our novel chevron pocket is like no other. With the pocketbag and flap cut on opposite bias, the overall pocket is a stand-out feature, and one of Kurtz Clothiers signatures for striped fabric.

The buttons we use at Kurtz Clothiers are all vintage stock. We have many tens of thousands of buttons to choose from, and the first Type I release features deadstock Spanish hard plastic buttons dating to the 1920s. We only have enough of these buttons left for one more release of ten shirts. Our buttons are a truly unique feature of Kurtz Clothiers Tiny Pipe Shirts

We know you're going to love the clothes we produce, and we hope you keep coming back to enjoy more. Sign up for blog updates to find out first about what we're up to.

Welcome to Kurtz Clothiers

The launch of our website, www.kurtzclothiers.com, represents the next step in our journey from 25-year veteran vintage clothing collector, to reproduction hobbyist, to manufacturer of vintage style clothing for public consumption. We are proud to introduce two new brands: Tiny Pipe Shirts and Echidna Overalls. I'll be using this blog to provide regular updates on product releases, samples and ideas, and pretty much everything going on here at Kurtz Clothiers.

The Brand

We are an artisanal company, making heritage menswear using vintage patterns and as far as possible, vintage cloth. We draw our patterns from long-forgotten, and not-so-forgotten, magazines, trade journals, books and patent applications, always on the hunt for new/old and interesting patterns to use.

Everything we use is natural - there will never be any synthetic products like polyester in any of our garments.

Everything we do is limited edition.

Our motto is Never Compromise! and it means what it says. Kurtz Clothiers will never compromise on anything that affects the quality of our garments - from cloth, buttons and thread, to workers and human rights. You deserve the best, and we aim to provide it.
